Our Top FAM Trip Destinations for 2019
A FAM trip is so much more than a vacation. It’s a way for you to familiarize yourself with a particular destination, accommodation or travel experience. It’s a networking opportunity. It helps you explain what the experience is like when selling it to your clients.
So, when you attend one of these trips, you aren’t simply relaxing by the pool. You will be taking countless notes and photos, documenting all the details and asking lots of questions. A FAM trip might even involve a presentation by a local tourism authority about what the destination has to offer.
Of course, just because a FAM trip is business – that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. When you go on a FAM trip, you will often get wined and dined and shown all of the hottest attractions. After all, if you have an amazing time on a FAM trip, you will be more likely to promote the destination to your customers.
So what are some of the top FAM trip destinations for 2019? Here are a few of the places where travel agents like you might be heading and why.
Egypt is one of the hottest tourist destinations at the moment, so it’s no surprise that many FAM trips are being hosted there. The Great Pyramids of Giza might be the first thing that comes to mind when many people think of Egypt, but Luxor also boasts incredible cultural wealth.
In this gorgeous location, you’ll be surrounded by temples and tombs that belonged to queens and pharaohs who lived thousands of years ago. You can visit the Valley of the Kings, where Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun. You’ll also see the spectacular mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, a famous woman pharaoh. She was incredibly important to Egyptian history, leading the kingdom to prosperity by establishing several trade routes.
While you could spend your entire visit simply admiring ancient temples, there’s so much more to see and do in Luxor. There are great restaurants and bars, as well as a bustling market where you can find souvenirs, jewellery, clothing, spices and so much more. Talk about a trip of a lifetime!
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai has it all. It’s one of the most futuristic cities in the world – a modern desert metropolis with glittering skyscrapers, luxurious hotels and enormous shopping malls. Yet, head outside the city and you can ride a camel over the sand dunes or experience a traditional meal under the stars.
Dubai will also be the location for the Dubai EXPO 2020, a huge worldwide event that will bring visitors from all over the world. The Expo will showcase the most innovative and exciting ideas and inventions in the world of sustainability, mobility, opportunity & more.

The stunning Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada are like nothing else you’ve ever seen before. Jagged peaks dusted with snow, reaching up to the bright blue sky. Glittering turquoise lakes, dense pine forests and wildflower-strewn mountain meadows. This is a truly stunning destination and a wonderful place for a FAM trip.
You can visit some of the most luxurious hotels in stunning natural settings, such as the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, the Fairmont Banff Springs and the Blackstone Mountain Lodge. On a FAM trip to Alberta, you might also participate in some exciting outdoor activities, such as skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating and hiking.
Your trip will likely involve shopping in downtown Banff, seeing a performance at the Banff Center for the Arts or soaking in the geothermal pools at the Banff Upper Hot Springs. Whatever the trip includes, it’s hard not to fall in love with Alberta.
Mexico City, Mexico
Mexico City is a fascinating destination. From authentic street vendors to world class gourmet restaurants, it’s a hot destination for foodies.
Sparked by a boom in tourism, many stylish and luxurious design hotels are also popping up in Mexico City. Did we mention the thriving art scene, great nightlife and so much more? It has an incredible collection of museums – featuring everything from the Museo de El Carmen (home to real life mummies) to the Museo Nacional de Antropologia.
There are also many fascinating historic ruins to visit. Our favorites are structures built by the Toltec and Aztecs. The modern architecture is fascinating as well, with many different styles and stunning historic buildings. This city is a superb base for taking day trips around the region, including to Veracruz, Cholula and Puebla. It’s definitely worth checking out if you have the time in 2019!
Hoi An, Vietnam
This UNESCO Heritage Site is one of the most historically significant cities in Vietnam. It’s also one of the most beautiful. The brightly hued colonial buildings, warm sunshine and friendly street vendors make it incredibly welcoming. This city has several excellent restaurants to enjoy, with exciting modern cuisine blending traditional French and Asian flavors. The Four Seasons Nam Hai Resort was recently renovated and is one of the most luxurious retreats in the city.
There’s so much to explore on a FAM trip in Hoi An. For example, you might row a basket boat through the Bay Mau water coconut forest and try catching crabs and fish. Or, you might take a cooking class and learn how to make spring rolls or Vietnamese pancakes.
A Hoi An FAM visit might be part of a larger tour of Vietnam that would also include some of the other beautiful and fascinating destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Long Bay.
